Poll charge with a sword
A photo in today’s newspaper set my thought process in motion. The photo relates to a farmers” rally at Sangli in Maharashtra and shows Sonia Gandhi with a sword in her right hand charging at the audience. The Maha CM Vilasrao Deshmukh is standing at her side and looks very happy with his right hand raised in some meaningful gesture. The caption is “Poll Charge” and news title is “make waiver bigger”. It is easy to understand that she is talking of “make waiver bigger” as framers are present in the rally. Sometime back her son said this. It is an old practice that politicians live away in luxury for all the time and announce such packages only at the time of election.
But why the sword in her hand? At an election rally, the politicians are expected to address the audience with folded hands. After all politicians come to people to seek their votes, or in other words their favour. But this politician asks for their votes with a sword in her hand, and also smiling while showing them the sword. The Indian politics has really changed. Positive has become negative and negative has become positive. No respect for people, the aam aadmi.
