The first time I went to Swabhumi is the first day of the year 2007 . I was new in Kolkata , and was there with a team of friends to spend the New Years Day with fun . After having picnic at a park NALBAN near a lake we went to the city . And Someone suggested SWABHUMI .

It was all packed with thousnads of people tourists and regular visitors . There is an artistic open place in the middle of the palce which has an auditorium like structure . As it was the new years day there was a band performing . In regular days too this palce becomes lively in the evenings with cultural activities . At the sideways there were different shops for ethnic exhitions . Ethnic dresses , luxury furnitures , ethnic and tradditional jewelleries , handicrafts of different materials like bamboo , silk , jutes etc . The Karigar Haat houses exotic handicraft items which appeals to the visitors . The other attractions are jute footwares and costume jewelleries which comes at very attractive prices specially during festive days .

It is one of my favourite place to time pass , when we feel bored we make a trip to Swabhumi , preferably in a non festive day and enjoy some quiet hours away from the hustlee and bustle of usual crowded markets .
