Saving Money in Japan
Posted December 23rd, 2007 by dhrubajyotiWhen we were JETs back in the day, there were times when we all ate instant ramen all week to save money for a big trip or get through the week before payday after a heavy month of shopping -or partying- in what we considered to be an expensive country to live in. One of my good friends told me his tricks of getting free bread at the bakeries around his house by asking for their leftover crusts, パンã®è€³ pan-no-mimi, that they cut off to make those famous Japanese triangle sandwiches.

Madhur signs Arbaaz Khan for Fashion
Posted December 23rd, 2007 by dhrubajyotiThings are finally happening in Arbaaz Khan's career. After playing marginal characters in Priydarshan's comedies and sundry supporting roles, Arbaaz Khan has moved into principal roles in significant films.
He has just been signed to play the main male lead opposite Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut in Madhur Bhandakar's Fashion. "When Madhur offered me this role I wasn't the least worried about the space I'd have in the film. Even though two beautiful ladies Priyanka and Kangana were already signed I'm handsome enough to hold my own," Arbaaz jokes.

Posted December 22nd, 2007 by dhrubajyotiTwo-year-old Lakshmi Tatma, who was recently released from a Bangalore hospital after a complicated operation to remove her parasitic twin, is being deified in her village in Bihar where women have started worshipping her clay idol for divine blessings and good luck.
People in Lakshmi’s Rampur Kodarkatti village in Araria district are upbeat about her successful operation and are eager to welcome her back home.
‘We have planned a celebration to mark her presence,’ the villagers said.
They have bought new clothes, sweets, chocolates, colourful balloons and toys as gifts.
Some villagers said she has divine powers while others said she is a miracle child and an incarnation of a Hindu goddess

Miserable failure
Posted December 22nd, 2007 by dhrubajyotiGeorge W Bush has been Google bombed.
Web users entering the words "miserable failure" into the popular search engine are directed to the biography of the president on the White House website.
The trick is possible because Google searches more than just the contents of web pages - it also counts how often a site is linked to, and with what words.
Thus, members of an online community can affect the results of Google searches - called "Google bombing" - by linking their sites to a chosen one.
Weblogger Adam Mathes is credited with inventing the practice in 2001, when he used it to link the phrase "talentless hack" to a friend's website.
The search engine can be manipulated by a fairly small group of users, one report suggested.
