Do you believe in God?

Once a western journalist asked Sri Aurobindo the very common question,"do you believe in God?"

Sri Aurobindo's reply was an emphatic "No".
This greatly puzzled the journalist.he had,after all.travelled a long distance to see this "Man of God."

"what do you mean by saying no?"he asked the saint.

Aurobindo gave him a very nice reply."when you know something,you do not need to believe in it.Do you have to believe in the sun,to believe in the starry night or believe in roses?when you see plainly things that are there then there is no question of having to 'believe' in them."

Belief is an inner faith that something exists or can come into being.Belief falls short of absolute Knowledge.
